About Us

The complete name of our facility is "The Marguerite Burke Ringer Mental Health Center." We offer outpatient services only. Our clients come to see us because they are not enjoying their lives as they might. We commonly treat people for depression, anxiety, stress related problems, family problems, attention deficit and substance abuse. The first session with us is an evaluation and assessment process that helps us make a plan for success. We offer individual and family counseling. Although our primary services are for adults, we are qualified and skilled at treating adolescents and some children over the age of five.

We are licensed by the state of NC to provide DWI assessments. We are one of the few providers who are also credentialed to meet the strict new Department of Transportation guidelines for substance abuse assessment and treatment.We were also selected by the Guilford County Court System to provide "The First Offenders Program." We also offer outpatient detoxification services for those client who may not afford inpatient or elect to try and detoxify from alcohol or other drugs without a hospital admission. Our substance abuse services are second to none and we offer individual counseling or the more intensive outpatient program depending on your level of need. We follow a twelve stepped based philosophy and have four clinicians who are also recovering themselves - for a combined forty years. We all enjoy our sober life styles and hope to help others find recovery.

Person-centered approach to treatment planning

We practice primarily Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. We have a person-centered approach to treatment planning. We also utilize Motivational Enhancement as well as Reality Therapy and Rational Emotive Therapy (RET). These forms of psychotherapy are all methods of learning that are intended to change people: to help them think, feel or act differently. It may be a process of learning something new or relearning something one has forgotten; it may be learning how to learn or even unlearn something. Our therapists will use their knowledge and their experiences to help find a path to a healthier and happier life.

The Intensive Outpatient Program
“IOP” for substance abuse treatment

This level of care, over the last twenty years, became the norm for substance abuse treatment virtually replacing the conventional 28-day inpatient programs. The cost is considerably less and the client is required to learn how to use their resources in the community while involved in treatment rather than after they are discharged from an inpatient program. The IOP group sessions meet four times a week for two and one half to three hours each session. We have morning or evening sessions to accommodate for most work schedules. Once a week we offer a family session where we focus on the effects of substance abuse on the family, friends and community and how those support systems can help the client recover. The IOP also offers an individual counseling component as well as Psychiatric review. The appropriate use of medication management with Antabuse, Campral, Naltrexone or other non-addictive medications has proven to enhance the early recovery process. The initial evaluation will determine whether your treatment plan will utilize this level of care.
